Geoff Barnes
Geoff has over 20 years experience in the financial advisory and stockbroking industry.
Prior to founding Peloton Capital with his fellow directors in June 2011 Geoff was a Division Director at Macquarie Private Wealth, where he spent nine years servicing a range of high net worth and institutional investors. Geoff was an investment advisor with Hartley Poynton before it was acquired by Macquarie Bank in Sydney.
Geoff specialises in bringing Company’s and/or projects to market and providing capital raising solutions to them. Over the last six years Geoff has assisted numerous companies meet their initial and development capital needs – via the public and private markets. He has strong relationships both domestically and internationally with private and institutional investors.
Nicholas Downes
Nicholas has spent over 20 years in financial advisory and full service investment advice where his career commenced at boutique, resource based, investment house Far East Capital before joining one of Sydney’s oldest investment firms as an advisor.
Prior to establishing and co-founding Peloton Capital in 2011, Nicholas joined UBS Wealth Management in 2002 and spent 9 years as a Director and Senior Investment Adviser where he has worked with High Net Worth individuals and Institutional clients transacting both on the Australian and in overseas markets.
Nicholas has successfully concluded a large number of successful transactions and provided capital raising and structuring advice to a number of Australian ASX listed firms. Nicholas is a Director at Peloton Capital providing corporate finance and a full range of advisory services – Securities trading, Managed Funds, Corporate consulting and Capital raising and Sophisticated Investor Placements.
Nicholas works closely with many large investment banks in Australia and Overseas in order to best facilitate the development of Peloton’s Corporate Clients to ensure their financial objectives.
Shannon Burman
Shannon brings over 20 years of Financial Advisory experience to the business. Shannon’s approach to investing allows him to provide a uniquely broad and multi- faceted client service to individuals, corporate clients and family offices.
Having completed a Bachelor of Economics with a triple major in Economics, Finance and Marketing, Shannon was selected for the Graduate Program at Commonwealth Bank. During the program Shannon was given the opportunity to develop and build a new division within the bank which was a conduit between business banking and wealth management. The advisory aspect of this role appealed to Shannon and in 2004 he took up a new opportunity with UBS Wealth Management as a Client Advisor. After four years, Shannon was promoted to Director and spent twelve years with UBS growing his business, and developing and expanding his market knowledge.
Shannon places great emphasis on detailed domestic and international market and stock analysis. He works with clients in a capacity similar to that of CFO, helping clients to achieve their investment goals, whether its an entrepreneur looking to sell their business, a corporate client looking to raise capital or preserving the wealth of an individual client.
Matthew Smithyman
Matthew has spent over 20 years in the financial services industry specialising in the private client and the wealth management industry.
Matthew began his career in Johannesburg, South Africa working at Stockbroker SG Frankel Pollak before immigrating to Australia in 2000 where he joined Commsec Advisory, advising High Net Worth clients on portfolio construction using Fixed Income, Domestic and International Equities. Matthew joined UBS in 2004 working for UBS Wealth Management. In the position of Executive Director he focused on establishing global investment portfolios, with strong risk management frameworks, for his clients which included Corporate Executives, business owners and family offices.
In June 2016 he resigned from UBS to join Peloton Capital.
Creating a bespoke offering for a small number of wealth clients. Matthew delivers sophisticated solutions and advice to the varied and often complex requirements of his unique client base. He looks across global investment markets to find the right solution for each client. Matthew places great emphasis on the overall client relationship, working with each individual to achieve their investment goals. Matthew is an advisor in all facets of his client families business which has developed, on occasion, into relationships on an inter-generational level. Matthew is ASX accredited and qualified to advise on Equities, Fixed income and Derivatives. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours in Accountancy and Economics.
Ian Edgar
Ian joins Peloton Capital with over 50 years of industry experience. The early part of his career was spent trading spot and forward currencies for the Commonwealth Bank of Australia and, as a result, outlaying time in Hong Kong and London. Given his successes in global markets, CBA tasked Ian with establishing their Forex Desk in Tokyo.
Following that achievement, he returned to Sydney and was approached to establish and lead a full-service stockbroking division within the fledgling online share-trading business, CommSec. Ian’s time at CommSec Advisory spanned the dot-com bubble collapse, the resources boom, the Global Financial Crisis, Australia’s real estate rise and numerous corrections.
Inducted into the Stockbroker Association’s Hall of Fame (2017), Ian has seen it all and shares his wealth of experience and knowledge by utilising a number of investment strategies tailored specifically to the individual. Ian can help you construct a portfolio using a fundamental, value-approach to stock selection, refine a portfolio with personalised analysis and advice, protect your assets with defensive investments, employ active trading to manage short term positions and identify new investment opportunities.
Brianna Muddle
Joining the stockbroking industry during the sharemarket boom of the mid-2000s, Brianna began her financial career as a Designated Trading Representative (DTR) for high-frequency traders. After witnessing the impact of the Global Financial Crisis (2008/2009) on self-directed investors, Brianna directed her experience and industry knowledge towards private client advice.
Brianna’s expertise lies in managing investment portfolios for High-Net-Worth individuals, companies and self-managed superannuation funds. With advice over investment products being tailored to the individual, an emphasis is placed on wealth preservation, growing capital, identifying investment opportunities and generating income.
In developing long-standing client relationships often broader family connections occur. Brianna is motivated to cultivate understanding surrounding inter-generational and survivorship wealth and help individuals identify goals and investment objectives.
Anthony Cross
Anthony has over 20 years of experience in banking and stockbroking, working in the cities of Adelaide, Sydney and London. Anthony acts as the Head of Compliance for Peloton Capital and actively monitors regulatory, parliamentary and legislative changes which may directly impact the business and client base. Anthony provides compliance advice to stockbroking and equity capital markets on numerous compliance matters. Anthony also develops, implements and maintains compliance policies and procedures and importantly liaises with government regulatory bodies as required.
Shane Gavegan
Shane joins Peloton as Head of Institutional Equities. Shane has worked in the equities markets for 22 years, primarily for Deutsche Bank and ABN AMRO across NZ, Australia and Asia. Initially a a sales-trader, Shane moved on to research sales and then was Co-head of hedge fund sales across Asia.
When Shane relocated back to Australia due to pending regulatory changes, he saw the opportunity to focus on the small-mid cap space and has gained experience in corporate finance and advice. Shane holds a Diploma in Finance.
Daniel Gardiner
Daniel is an equities market professional with more than 20 years’ experience servicing institutional and high net worth clients. Daniel’s career has spanned working at boutique brokers, primarily specialising in small and micro-companies after learning his craft at both domestic and internationally domiciled investment banks. Daniel is passionate about delivering exemplary client service and investment outcomes.
Daniel holds a Bachelor of Sustainability from the University of New England and a Graduate Certificate of Applied Finance, and CFA Institute Certificate in ESG Investing.
Darren Odell
Darren has worked as an Equities analyst for 25 years, in New Zealand, Europe and Australia. In Europe, Darren worked at Deutsche Bank, where he was a rated analyst covering the IT Software & Services sectors. For the past, 15 years Darren has worked in Sydney, predominately researching small cap companies.
Darren is a CFA charter holder and has a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration (BCA Hons), degree from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand (1990-1993).
Mike Boyle
Mike has over 20 years experience in the banking and finance industry having previously held roles with Macquarie Bank and UBS Australia.
As Head of Peloton’s ECM Divison, Michael’s core focus is providing capital market advisory services to public and private sector clients.
Mike has experience in all aspects of equity capital raising and corporate transactions for listed public companies, companies seeking to list, and companies seeking to raise capital in the private capital and venture capital market
Stevan Adzic
Stevan has over 10 years’ experience in investment banking, financial advice and financial planning.
Prior to joining Peloton Shareholder Services, Stevan worked at Macquarie Bank where he was exposed to equities, fixed income, commodities and currencies. He then moved into the financial advisory space as a financial advisor, where he serviced a range of clients from family businesses to high net worth over 5 years.
Stevan joined Peloton Shareholder Services in January 2019 as a Business Development Manager, where he leverages his professional experience to create a streamlined, low cost, quality solution for ASX listed companies to increase shareholder engagement.
Alan McDonald
Alan has worked in financial markets for close to 30 years. Initially working for the Australian Stock Exchange on the Options Trading floor before he began working for Herbert P Cooper and Son as an Operator on the trading floor. During this period he began advising institutions and high net worth individuals.
In 2002 Alan commenced work at Macquarie where he spent over 15 years. During this time he provided advice to High Net worth Client as well as Small institutions on several areas of expertise including structuring of portfolios, hedging portfolio using ETOs and investing in select managed funds.
Alan has also has also been a integral part in several corporate transactions. This included advice to the company involved and also providing these exclusive opportunities to his clients with the objective of adding additional growth and opportunities .
David Linden-Smith
David has over 30 years’ investment experience gained across a range of leading financial, banking and stockbroking firms. He draws on this financial and stockbroking expertise to provide direct investment advice to a select group of private individuals and families, their companies, trusts and superannuation funds. David provides advice on Australian and international shares, fixed interest, managed funds, exchange traded options, cash management services, IPOs and other capital raisings.
After starting his stockbroking career with Potter Warburg (now UBS), David held a spectrum of senior roles in the finance sector, including corporate finance with Hambros, before moving to CBA to help establish Comsec and ultimately become HeadTrader. He also worked as an adviser with BBY and EL & C Baillieu.
David is a member of the Stockbrokers and Financial Adviser Association and former Chairman (and current member) of the eTrading Committee. David holds a Graduate Diploma in Financial Markets (FINSIA) and is qualified in ADA1.
Paris Virgo
Paris holds a degree in Law from the Open University in England and joins Peloton Capital as the Operations and Client Services Manager, acting as a key interface with our clients and ensuring that their experience in dealing with Peloton is seamless and professional. Paris is also RG146 accredited.
Vanora Chan
Vanora has over 8 years of experience in the financial services industry working in the cities of Sydney and London. Vanora acts in the capacity of Trading Desk Assistant and assists with new and existing client enquiries and ensuring the smooth operation of their accounts. Vanora holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Master of Finance from the University of New South Wales. Vanora is also RG146 accredited.
Stuart Turner
Stuart joins Peloton Capital from Blue Ocean Equities where he spent 8 years a senior research analyst covering emerging industrial companies. In addition, he has over 20 years of experience in various buy- and sell-side roles in Australia and in Hong Kong, where he established Macquarie Bank’s institutional equities funds management business.
Stuart originally studied as a civil engineer and holds a BE (Syd) as well as an MBA (AGSM).
Jack Wang
Jack has a diverse background having worked more than 6 years in healthcare and more than a year in retail banking. Jack’s new focus is in providing capital market advisory services to public and private companies.
Jack holds a Master of Applied Finance from Macquarie University and a Bachelor of Medical Science from Sydney University.
